I gave it a good run, made it 7.5 months into my new years’ resolution to not buy any cars this year. Then a 91 NA with no rust popped up. Partially disassembled comes with blown 1.8L and a complete, ready to install 1.8L VVT engine, coilovers, and “a truckload” of parts. It was an automatic that was swapped to a 5 speed, and then the 1.6 was swapped to a 1.8.

Everything in Moderation I suppose.

Miataration?

It’s also riding about 2 inches to high but can’t complain about a cheap mi ata!

Engine and transmission are out of it. It comes with coilovers too.

Well you made it about 2 months longer than I did. But when the wrong (right?) thing pops up you just have to break the resolution. In my case it was a factory 5-speed ZJ.
Not perfectly rust-free, but not bad for the area.

If you’re looking to offload any NAs to balance things back out, I know a guy...

I’ll hit you up when I get this guy together and running.

Cool beans . How’s the one with the roof coming (and how’s the Autozam )?

I really haven’t done anything to that one in a while. I am hoping getting this one flipped with inspire me both financially and motivation wise.
The Autozam is delightful. I’ve taken it to a couple cars and coffee events and drive it periodically for normal stuff and people really seem to like it. Hows the Summer FB fun going?

Hopefully you’re right!
The FB fun is, well, fun. Last weekend I went into Pittsburgh for the car show at the Vintage Grand Prix, put a hair over 300 miles on it that weekend without issue (other than the fuel filter clogging up with rust, it’s been very reliable). At this point I’ve done so much work on it that it’s really to the point of ‘just drive it’ - it doesn’t really need anything (though there would be a few things nice to do, like install the -SE stereo I’ve got on the bench being cleaned up, or fix the gas door release switch). Good tires would also still be nice, but the “Solar 4XS” have enough grip for the street, really. Jeff20B is currently working on the spare carb (the one that was on it; not the stripped one I’ve been running) , too so that should be a fun upgrade.
I meant to write up a 1-year review for the one-year mark, but things tend to get busy for me in waves and one of those waves was around there. I’ll get to it eventually.

Jeff got his hands on my carb after all! I was going to have him do one up for me actually. It should liven up nicely after! I was actually going to go to that one, one of the guys had his AZ1 as a pace car for that race.
Hmm, that’s odd, I changed the filter right after I got it for a similar reason. Might be a corroded fuel tank. That’s great that it’s just maintenance and upgrades now! That’s half the battle.
I get ya, I was going to do a writeup about driving the AZ1 home, but I’ve been so busy.

I was back and forth about sending it off, I know he does good work but I have a carb that works fine, but I decided I’d rather spend the money and have one of his on the car and the current one as a backup than have a useless one sitting around. It should be good.
I remember the fuel filter being brand new, it ended up clogging and buckling a little (let enough through to clog up the screens in the carb inlets too). I’ve got a new one in there now but definitely am going to have to change it on a much more frequent basis than a typical fuel filter, there’s rust in the tank for sure (still better than on the body!). Fuel filters are a whole lot cheaper than NOS gas tanks :)
A writeup on the Autozam Migration would still be cool if you get to it. Also updates on this NA as it progresses, might help keep the motivation up on it (doesn’t help with the time factor, though).
